Acid Reflux And Exercise

There are many things in our life that can be pushed to the side because of the symptoms that we experience from acid reflux. For some people it can affect the things that they eat and also the way in which they exercise. Exercising is important to anyone who wants to live a healthy life and for some people cannot be avoided. Learn how to prevent acid reflux while you exercise and what can cause it.

Substitute Exercises

The type of exercising that you are doing could be making the acid reflux symptoms more pronounced. Usually the more vigorous the exercise the harder it will be on someone. The best thing that you can do is to substitute the exercises. Instead of running you could by cycling on the stationary bike. Research shows that stationary exercises are less prone to causing acid reflux.

BMI

The BMI – body mass index – is the number that has been calculated from the person’s height and weight and is helpful in determining whether someone is over weight. This is actually more of what can cause your acid reflux more than the exercise itself.

Do Not Exercise Within Three Hours Of Eating

One of the best ways to help avoid acid reflux is to let your stomach fully digest each meal that you are eating. If you exercise within three hours of a meal than you may not have given it the time that it needs and will be at greater risk of causing it. Give yourself plenty of time.

Water

People with acid reflux should be drinking water instead of sports drinks while they exercise. Research shows that the sport drinks will cause the symptoms to last much longer then if they were to drink water. Make sure that you drink enough water to keep you hydrated – but not too much so that it can cause your stomach to tighten and start up the symptoms again.
